Welding of rail – Part 1: Aluminothermic

This industry standard specifies requirements for the qualification of welds in steel rails for the following:
a) joining of rails by aluminothermic welding process; and
b) repairing of the rail head by aluminothermic welding process.

This standard was developed with the objectives to provide understanding on the requirements for rail track welding which covers:
a) the requirements for aluminothermic welding;
b) the requirements for welding personnel;
c) the requirements for rail repairing and maintenance; and
d) the requirements to enhance the quality and suitability of rail welding.
