Railway track – Composite sleepers

This standard specifies the requirement of polymeric composite railway sleepers, in terms of its material characteristics, general requirement, and performance test method. This standard is applicable to the sleepers and bearers to be installed in all tracks (both heavy and urban rail) with or without ballast.

This standard was developed with the following objectives:
a) to provide minimum requirements for composite sleepers and bearers for railway track to be used by the industries;
b) to be used as a preliminary information for users, contractors and suppliers; and
c) to ensure the safety requirements of the product in the market.
